Another strong addition to the growing sub-genre of stories about people so desperate for a little danger in their lives that they decide to get romantically and/or creatively involved with Tom Burke despite the fact that he’s a walking red flag six feet tall who would sooner self-destruct than return anyone’s emotional investment (previous entries include “The Souvenir,” “The Crown,” and “Mank”), Harry Wootliff’s “True Things” is a movie that starts with a woman surrendering to fantasy, and then slowly unravels as she tunnels her way towards freedom....
To say that promise gets tested isn’t much of a spoiler. After all, “Tuca and Bertie” — Adult Swim’s animated comedy from creator Lisa Hanawalt — is a sitcom, and sitcoms are built on simple premises (or promises) that result in extreme hijinks (and hilarity). What’s so impressive about the episode, and illustrative of what makes Hanawalt’s series both unique and exemplary, is how a straightforward assurance between friends becomes a complex examination of people, social dynamics, and storytelling in general....
Included in the Warner Bros. 2021 trailer is footage from David Chase’s highly anticipated “Sopranos” prequel movie “The Many Saints of Newark,” which the studio recently delayed from March to September 24, 2021. The film stars Alessandro Nivola as Dickie Moltisanti, father of Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli) from the original HBO series, but it’s young Tony Soprano who is front and center in the trailer footage (see image above). Young Tony is played by Michael Gandolfini, son of late Tony Soprano actor James Gandolfini....

The Gotham Film and Media Institute is making the live stream of the ceremony (which takes place in New York City) available on the organization’s Facebook page on Monday. The ceremony and the stream begin at 8:00 p.m. ET. that evening. IndieWire will embed the stream below once it’s made available on the Gotham Facebook page. The event marks the first significant awards ceremony of the season, ahead of most critics groups and guilds....
