Host: Ariana DeBose “SNL” has thankfully been out of the era of constant musical monologues for quite some time. Now, when there actually is one, it can be appreciated (instead of just seen as the go-to bit the show has, regardless of the host). Even more impressive about the bit was that, unlike most musical numbers on “SNL,” this one truly captured the vibe of just a couple of friends singing show tunes (in this case, “West Side Story” show tunes), goofing off, and having fun....

One of the first big Sundance horror films that fans will get to see this fall is “Speak No Evil,” Christian Tafdrup’s eerie Danish film about a vacation between two families going horribly awry. The movie was a critical darling in Park City and is certain to terrify the general public when it comes out next month. Per the official synopsis, on a vacation in Tuscany, two families – one Danish, one Dutch – meet and become fast friends....

Netflix has adapted George Saunders’ New Yorker short story “Escape from Spiderhead,” about two inmates (played by Jurnee Smollett and Miles Teller) who grapple with their past crimes while living in a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary (Chris Hemsworth) who experiments on inmates with psychedelic drugs. “Spiderhead” premieres June 17 on the streamer. The tradeoff for being a test subject is a commuted prison sentence, but when the open-concept prison is challenged, the experiments start to push the limits of free will....

Netflix has announced a partnership with Immersive Gamebox on a new multiplayer in-person game that will allow fans to compete in simulated versions of popular challenges from the show. Participants will either lose lives or win virtual money based on their performances in challenges such as “Red Light, Green Light,” “Marbles,” and the eponymous “Squid Game.” The game will be facilitated through a combination of virtual reality and motion sensor technology....
