The MCU is the source for several TV shows that will end up on Disney+, so even if “Moon Knight” isn’t successful there are several shows already in its wake (a reminder that “Miss Marvel” comes out next month). But in the meantime let’s look at what worked and what didn’t in “Moon Knight.” Pro: Layla May Calamawy came into this series as pretty much it’s only regular female character and slayed it....

Anderson revealed his ideal runtime when the conversation pivoted to the possibility of the director moving into the television space. Anderson has directed nine feature films since 1996 and has helmed countless music videos, but he has never been behind the camera for a television series. “[The limited series is a] great format when it works. Martin Scorsese executive-produces this gritty and hard-edged examination of loss centered on Martha (Kirby) and Sean (LaBeouf), a Boston couple reeling after a home birth ends in tragedy. Martha spirals into a messy, yearlong odyssey of grief, often pained discovery while also haunted by memories of what went wrong with the now publicly vilified midwife (Molly Parker), who she must face in court. Martha also has to answer to her domineering mother, played enormously by Burstyn in another career-topping turn of many....
Needless to say, revisiting Manderley is tempting and dangerous in equal measure. On the one hand, there’s something accessibly timeless to du Maurier’s rather simple interwar story about a rich widower named Maxim de Winter, the guileless new bride he plucks out of the precariat, and the sprawling Cornwall estate he invites her to share with him and the lingering presence of his dead first wife. On the other hand, “Rebecca” is by nature a book that’s violently resistant to any kind of change; it’s possessed by a malevolent spirit that would sooner burn Manderley to the ground than let anyone so much as replace the curtains....
