The Skywalker Saga might’ve come to an end, but there’s a new “Star Wars” era you’re going to need to know a lot more about as Lucasfilm and Disney enter the next stage of the “Star Wars” universe: the High Republic. While some filmed “Star Wars” content will eventually take place in this never-before-explored time period — including the forthcoming series from Leslye Headland, “The Acolyte” — the main introduction to the High Republic will be in the form of books and graphic novels....

In the movie, when Larson presents his musical “Superbia” to an audience of peers and producers, he’s stunned to see Stephen Sondheim (played by Bradley Whitford) sneaking into the back of the audience. Later in the movie, Garfield’s Larson receives a voicemail from Sondheim encouraging his writing career — and the audio was spoken by none other than the late, great composer (who died Friday at the age of 91)....

Even as the Sundance 2022 news cycle moves on, a sore spot remains with “Jihad Rehab.” Among the many problems with director Meg Smaker’s look at a Saudi Arabian institution designed to help former Guantanamo Bay prisoners reintegrate into society: There’s the title, which reinforces the most negative connotations of the term “jihad”; the positioning of the subjects as ominous Muslim stereotypes; and an ethically dubious approach to labeling men as “terrorists” who haven’t been accused of actual crimes....

For the uninitiated (though at this point you’d be hard-pressed to find a video game consumer who isn’t familiar with “Terraria”), the game plays like an old school Metroidvania mixed with the sandbox design and limitless building possibilities of “Minecraft.” There’s a stunning variety of weapons, armors, building blocks and everything in between — entire systems for fishing, golfing, and home decoration exist, among other features — to loot and craft in the world, which is teeming with unique biomes and diverse enemies and friendly NPCs....

Financially and psychologically, this was a bonanza for theaters. Half or more of the ticket revenue went to distributors; for exhibitors, it was all about the popcorn, the Red Vines, and their generous profit margins. For one day at least, money rolled in. The long-term impact is TBD: Prices have returned to their normal average of over $10 and the next few weeks are bleak. One side effect of the $3 ticket is it wreaks havoc on box-office estimates....

The reckless and impulsive Cuphead, voiced by Tru Valentino, is tempered somewhat by his cautious and slightly neurotic brother Mugman (Frank Todaro), while Elder Kettle (Joe Hanna) is the patient guardian who ensures order in their snug little cottage on Inkwell Isle. Luke Millington-Drake voices the duo’s nemesis, The Devil, with Wayne Brady pitching in as the voice of the Cab Calloway–styled big band leader King Dice, and Grey Griffin as the noir-inflected Ms....

The 70-year-old Choy isn’t the subject of their film so much as she’s the lens through which it looks back at yesterday and the fire that kindles its hope for a brighter tomorrow, but her inextinguishable spirit can be felt burning away behind every scene. Not allowing history to get too comfortable. Rubbing a lit cigarette into our collective political blind spots. Combining the revolutionary zeal of a teenage Marxist with the diva-like magnetism of Mariah Carey....
