Despite its circuitous path, “Pachinko” is at least clear in the main individuals along the way. There’s Solomon Baek (Jin Ha), a young upstart employee at a giant international firm called on to help with a lucrative land deal. In a return to his hometown after studying in America, he reconnects with his father Mozasu (Soji Arai) and grandmother Sunja (Youn Yuh Jung). The Sunja we see at the present of the 1980s is the main focus of the series’ other vital half, first as a young child in Busan and then as a young woman seeing the circumstances of her life take her well beyond the walls of her family home....

There’s not much going on in Lea’s life when we first meet her. Caught in the liminal space of a suburban high school summer — no school to worry about, but plenty of adult decisions looming — she spends her days listening to music, wandering her dusty neighborhood, and hanging out with her vivacious pal Amber (Quinn Frankel). Her mom (a heartbreaking Gretchen Mol) isn’t exactly a stellar role model, often sleeping in past her own wake-up time (it’s Lea who tries to wake her up), and her dad is nowhere to be found....

“It’s very complicated for me to talk about [‘The Nightingale’], because we haven’t found any solutions right now,” Laurent said during a recent interview with IndieWire. The film, originally set for release in December 2021, was already in pre-production and just five days out from its production start date when the pandemic hit in March of last year. After production was shut down, Sony pushed the film’s release date to December 21, 2022, but it has yet to resume production....

The cast of Netflix hit “Heartstopper” — Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Tobie Donovan, Yasmin Finney, and William Gao — filmed a holiday-centric video that the streamer tweeted on Christmas Day, including some glad tidings of good cheer: Season 2 is coming in 2023. “Hi Heartstopper fans! We’re wishing you the merriest Christmas and New Year,” Locke says in the video. “We hope you’re eating lots of anti-homophobia cheese,” Donovan adds, before the video cuts to the moment in Season 1 when Darcy says, “It always pays to be prepared with anti-homophobia cheese....

“Walter Hamada is the most dangerous kind of enabler,” Fisher wrote in reaction to The Times profile. “His lies, and WB PR’s failed Sept 4th hit-piece, sought to undermine the very real issues of the ‘Justice League’ investigation. I will not participate in any production associated with him.” IndieWire has reached out to Hamada for comment. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter. Fisher came forward in July to accuse “Justice League” reshoots director Joss Whedon of “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior on set, adding that producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg enabled Whedon....

Speaking to Total Film magazine, Scott called the Gucci family’s response to his casting “alarmingly insulting.” The director reminded the Gucci family that Aldo is being played by Al Pacino, an Oscar winner and one of the most iconic actors of all time. “The people that were writing from the family to us at the onset were alarmingly insulting, saying that Al Pacino did not represent physically Aldo Gucci in any shape or form,” Scott said....

Production on “The Northman” began in late summer in Ireland. The Belfast Telegraph reported in August that film crews were spotted at the Antrim Hills near the seaport and market town of Larne (check out some of the film’s constructed sets here). The coronavirus pandemic delayed the crew from their original start date in March. Eggers was just days away from the start of filming when he was forced to quarantine in Belfast, Ireland following the production shutdown....
