IndieWire awarded “The Human Voice” an A- review out of the Venice Film Festival, writing, “This is the pure, distilled essence of both the veteran director and the actress....

This being mainstream television, however, and with the show’s trendy Los Angeles setting, “The L Word” could only showcase so much of the LGBTQ community. In an obvious play for straight audiences, most of the characters on “The L Word” were feminine presenting and cisgender, with little to no discussion of gender identity or presentation. It wasn’t until Season 3 aired in 2006 that viewers met the first recurring trans masculine character on TV, the unassumingly sweet Max Sweeney....

Despite the wrenching twists and stinging hilarity peppered throughout an exemplary “White Lotus” finale, a moment from Episode 5 hovered over the ending chapter. Sitting at the breakfast table (pre-robbery), Mark Mossbacher (Steve Zahn) tries to improvise a sage, discomforting response to Paula (Brittany O’Grady), who left dinner the night prior when, per Olivia (Sydney Sweeney), she was upset that “[Native] Hawaiians had to dance for a bunch of white people....

The VOD sites are now benefiting from the theatrical play summer hits including “Maverick,” “Nope” (Universal/$19.99), and “DC League of Super-Pets” (WBD). among debuting releases — none of which are available on the studios’ streaming sites. Meanwhile, Netflix seems to be counter-programming with a heavily original lineup that includes titles that may have once been intended for theaters. Of note — “Maverick” is for sale as a digital download initially (EST, or electronic sell-through), not just a 48 hour rental....

The organization announced as much on Friday, reversing an earlier decision to collapse Variety Talk and Variety Sketch Series category that would encompass not only late night talk shows, whether airing nightly or weekly, but also sketch series, live or otherwise. “While the Academy remains concerned about the number of series produced and the relatively small pool of entries in the Variety Sketch genre, it acknowledges that the differences between Variety Sketch and Talk programs merit separate consideration,” the organization said in a statement....

In the face of this monumental shift in their family, Douglas ultimately pushes for the two of them and their son Albie (Tom Taylor) to follow through on their plans for a grand European holiday, winding through cities in the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain, among other tourist-friendly stops. These overnight stays bounce back and forth between the grating (Douglas always worried about missing a reservation for a spot at a tourist destination) and more illuminating (Douglas always walking just a few steps ahead of everyone as he works to get them on time)....

Now at least fans have some clues. Netflix released a trailer January 6 for the first seven episodes of Season 4. (The second seven episodes will stream at a later date.) Here, Marty and Wendy seem poised to be free of their obligation to drug kingpin Omar Novarro — if they can just fulfill a few more small demands.
