“Don’t Look Up” stars DiCaprio and Lawrence as Dr. Randall Mindy and Dr. Kate Dibiasky, two low-level astronomers forced to travel around the U.S. to warn the population that a giant meteor is heading straight towards the planet. Pre-released clips from the film show the astronomers trying and failing to communicate their message to the President of the United States, a MAGA-type figure played by Meryl Streep, and to two sunny-minded morning television hosts played by Blanchett and Perry....

The official synopsis for “Don’t Worry Darling” reads: “A 1950s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets.” Wilde’s “Booksmart” co-screenwriter Katie Silberman wrote the film based on an original script by the Van Dyke brothers. The supporting cast includes Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, and Chris Pine. The first footage from the movie (below) shows Pugh’s character in an idyllic suburban setting, but something dark and twisted rages underneath the surface....

Now, he has lent his perspective to “Easter Sunday,” a new comedy starring Koy as Joe Valencia, a version of himself, who returns to the Bay Area for the eponymous holiday to deal with his extended Filipino family. It’s the first major studio comedy about a Filipino-American family featuring a nearly-all Filipino cast, and was shepherded to the screen with the help of Steven Spielberg, an avowed fan of Koy’s, whose DreamWorks Pictures co-produced the film....

It’s been a bad week for Arbi and Fallah, but every grey cloud has a silver lining. Adil El Arbi recently took to Instagram to reveal that the directors have received an outpouring of support from some of the biggest names in comic book filmmaking this week. “Thanks for all the messages of support all over the world,” he wrote. “Shoutout directors Edgar Wright and James Gunn, your kind words and experience mean a lot and help us through this difficult period....

Many predicted as much. After last year’s production shutdown threw release dates to the wind, the 2020-2021 class of Emmy contenders was upended. Perennial nominees from “Succession,” “Stranger Things,” “Ozark,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and more were unable to produce new episodes in their typical scheduling windows and had to bow out of this year’s race, accordingly. (Also, since the TV Academy’s cough-outdated-cough calendar can prove confusing for casual TV fans wondering why their favorite recent shows aren’t included on the nominations list, it’s worth noting that “Loki,” “Dave,” “Tuca & Bertie,” “The White Lotus,” “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” and more shows that premiered after May 31 are ineligible for this year’s Emmys, so they cannot be snubbed....

“Auction of Souls” was long considered lost, but the film — starring Mardiganian and based on “Ravished Armenia,” her personal account of the atrocities carried out by the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century — resurfaced incomplete in the early 2000s. Fragments of “Auction of Souls” appear in “Aurora’s Sunrise,” as a reminder that a century ago Hollywood, and the American government, were invested enough in the Armenian plight as it was still unfolding to put on a major filmic endeavor....

After the non-stop misery of the previous film, “3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” quickly re-introduces the central conflict while reaffirming that this may be a different type of tale than fans are used to with “Evangelion.” Sure, Shinji Ikari (Megumi Ogata), Asuka Shikinami Langley (Yūko Miyamura), and the new Rei Ayanami clone (Megumi Hayashibara) still pilot Evas — giant humanoid mechas made out of extra-dimensional beings called Angels — but the stakes are different....
