Will “Minari” become a similar awards sensation? Here’s hoping. While the film remains undated by A24, the studio has confirmed it will open before the end of February 2021 and thus be eligible for the 2021 Oscars. The official “Minari” synopsis from A24 reads: “A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, ‘Minari’ follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream....
That title says “Just because this guy commissioned and co-wrote a film about himself on the heels of publishing two different memoirs doesn’t mean that he takes himself too seriously.” It sets just the right tone for a perversely navel-gazing portrait of one artist’s long journey toward accepting their own insignificance; a documentary by and about a famous person who insists that he only deserves to be the subject of a documentary because — for all of his unlikely success and close personal friendship with David Bowie — he’s reached the divine understanding that he doesn’t really deserve to be the subject of a documentary....
The opening season of the series — appropriately named “MUBI Podcast” — will span six episodes, beginning with the debut episode launching on June 3. Hosted by Rico Gagliano, the overall theme for the season is “Lost in Translation” and is centered around helping introduce significant works in international cinema to a wider audience, something that’s long been part of the overall MUBI goal. The first look at “My Policeman” shows Patrick, Marion, and Tom spending time together as a trio, with Tom torn between his two loves. The film later jumps between the 1950s and the 1990s, with Styles’ Tom later being played by Linus Roache and Marion now portrayed by Gina McKee, as the couple decide to take an ailing Patrick (Rupert Everett) in after he suffers a stroke. The character of Tom is “confused,” as director Grandage previously told Vanity Fair....

To celebrate May 4th, the annual “Star Wars” fan day, Disney+ released a new trailer for the limited series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” starring Ewan McGregor in the titular role. The series premieres May 27 with its first two episodes, followed by weekly installments every Wednesday. Obi-Wan (McGregor) is seen hiding from Stormtroopers and battling bounty hunters 10 years after the events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” Jedi were murdered under the Order 66 after Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) turned to the dark side as Sith Lord Darth Vader....
