Emelie Mahdavian’s documentary “Bitterbrush” looks at women in a state of becoming, but where most films position their subjects on a threshold — say, the evolution from girl to woman — “Bitterbrush” is about the quiet moments when you’re already an adult but wonder what the next decade or two will bring. A slow-moving feature of itinerant lives cast against the sublime landscapes of the American West, Mahdavian’s film is quiet — but it packs a hell of a punch....

That may be why, 12 years after his cult classic “Black Swan” first thrilled and chilled audiences, he still hasn’t made a musical version of the movie happen. It would seem like an inevitability given the Tchaikovsky source material and the film’s grand theatrics, costuming, and over-the-top characters. Still, as “The Whale” director revealed to The AV Club in a recent interview, he’s working on it. “We’re trying to do the ‘Black Swan’ musical,” the Oscar-nominated filmmaker said....

The opening scene sees Timmy (Randall Park) greeting a customer who’s hasn’t visited his local video rental store in three years. Before the manager can rattle off all the reasons why people get too busy to partake in at-home motion pictures, the shopper cuts him off: “I’ve been watching Netflix.” Thank goodness, right? The Blockbuster/Netflix connection, after all, is the elephant in the room: “Blockbuster” is ostensibly about the last Blockbuster storefront in America, and it’s only available to watch on the service that many credit for putting Blockbuster out of business....

Not much is known about the show other than it is an origin series focused on Queen Charlotte’s love life and rise to queendom prior to seeing her on the series. We’ll also see younger incarnations of Lady Danbury (played by Adjoa Andoh) and Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) on the series. There is not yet an official name. Shonda Rhimes will write the series as well as serve as executive producer with the help of Betsy Beers and Tom Verica....

Sound familiar? Sounds, perhaps, like another Arnaud Desplechin film that premiered once upon a time in Cannes (as nearly all his films do)? Sounds about right. Though the French auteur has always freely recycled themes and plot points (with more than half the characters in his 14 features carrying the surnames Dedalus and Vuillard), “Brother and Sister” seems more like a retread (and a retreat) than anything that’s come prior, marking a new step forward for the lauded director by taking a disappointing step back....

The new trailer for David Leitch’s “Bullet Train,” in theaters August 5, reveals the boss/employee relationship between Pitt’s assassin character and Sandra Bullock’s unnamed handler, who assigns Pitt a “simple first job back” after giving Pitt a new codename: Ladybug. It’s all an attempt to turn Ladybug’s “biblical” bad luck around after a series of mishaps on the job, including a suicidal bellboy and a bad run-in with a fellow hitman, played by Benito A Martínez Ocasio aka Bad Bunny....
