PBS’ version opens with three Englishmen of obvious privilege in conversation around a table in a members-only men’s club, wagering whether the pre-passenger-flight-era feat of human ambition and technological marvel implied in the title is achievable. It’s not Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, and the new space race, but can you spy the subtle parallels? It’s England in the late-1800s, and the three men are Bernard Fortescue (Jason Watkins), Nyle Bellamy (Peter Sullivan), and Phileas Fogg (David Tennant), the story’s main protagonist, who makes a wager of £20,000 ($3 million today) that he can circumnavigate the world in 80 days or less....

“Master of None” Season 3, officially titled “Master of None Presents: Moments in Love,” finds Waithe’s character Denise stepping into the lead role. The new episodes concern the trials and tribulations of Denise’s marriage to Alicia, played by BAFTA winner Naomi Ackie (best known in the states for her role as Jannah in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”). Netflix bills the new season as “a modern love story that intimately illustrates the ups and downs of marriage, struggles with fertility, and personal growth both together and apart....

Hader stars as the titular former hitman whose acting career is finally finding its footing, while his personal life is still in disarray. Season 3 of HBO’s hit series “Barry” premieres April 24, and a new teaser shows that Barry is trying even harder to be the version of himself that he’s been striving to embody. But as ex-boss Fuches (Stephen Root) continues to conspire against Army vet Barry, and acting coach Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) thinks that Barry is to blame for the death of his police officer girlfriend, the tension will inevitably boil over....

Branagh appeared at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this weekend, where he received the Outstanding Directors of the Year Award, an honor he shared with this year’s four other Oscar-nominated directors: Jane Campion, Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Spielberg, and Ryausuke Hamaguchi. In a conversation with Scott Feinberg to accept the award, Branagh revealed that he cut himself out of a role in “Belfast.” “There was one version of the film where an older version of Buddy returns to Belfast, and I’ll give you three guesses who that actor was,” Branagh said, clearly referring to himself....

“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” has finally made its streaming debut on HBO Max, and with it comes a brand new scene the filmmaker shot for his four-hour superhero epic. Nearly the entirety of the Snyder Cut consists of pre-existing footage Snyder shot before leaving the original “Justice League” production in 2017. To pull off the four-hour version, Snyder needed to not only assemble the footage but also to finish extensive special effects work....

If it seems like every single person you follow on the Internet has a podcast, that’s because we were stuck in our houses with little outside human contact for a year so what else did you expect us to do? But in all seriousness, that’s probably because it’s very easy to record high-quality audio from your home, and you don’t need to invest in a pro-level recording suite to do it....

And while it’s true that “Big Gold Brick” was shot before the pandemic, and made with the help of Petsos’ friend and frequent collaborator Oscar Isaac (who executive produced the film, and cameos in it as a homicidal crime lord whose character is equal parts Peter Sellers and Sion Sono), such advantages only serve to underline how far removed this movie is from current notions of fundability. Even with Megan Fox in a throwaway role as “hot, sexually available woman with a spicy attitude,” Lucy Hale as “hot, romantically available woman with a nice attitude,” and a scene in which Cohen is chased through a supermarket by the undead cyborg from “Mortal Engines” (I’m still trying to work that one out), getting a project off the ground as daft and inexplicable as this one must’ve required the vision of an auteur and the energy of a mad scientist — to the point that Petsos was fresh out of both by the time he actually got to set....
