The new teaser, titled “In Aeternum,” which is Latin for “forever,” unfolds entirely in reverse motion. The idea started with a composition by Jenkins’ “Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk” composer, Nicholas Britell. “I said to Nick, is there a way to compose with chords that have the same feelings, same energy, the same power in reverse as they do play forwards?” Jenkins said. Britell fulfilled his wishes, and he sat on the composition for about two months before reaching an epiphany....

Three weeks of sitcom homage, one week catching up with the real world, and now “WandaVision” delivers its first fully formed look at what the series really is: a tragic thriller hidden behind the thin promise of all sitcoms — that everything is going to be OK. Arriving halfway through the nine-episode season, “On a Very Special Episode…” is a pivot point to be sure. Not only does the 33-minute entry (sans those lengthy credits) split time between Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in their new sitcom home, with their rapidly growing kids and short-lived pet dog, but it finally starts setting up the next phase of the MCU and pushes its main character to the tipping point....

Plot details remain unknown, though per usual, Anderson is writing and directing his next vision. His latest film, “The French Dispatch,” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this summer to strong reviews, and will be released in theaters from Searchlight Pictures on October 22. Swinton, Murray, and Brody also star in that film, and are joined by, among many more, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss, Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Wright, Benicio del Toro, and Owen Wilson....

“Basic with Ads” will cost $6.99 per month at launch, $3 (or about 30 percent) less than the company’s existing “Basic” plan, which is ad-free. Simultaneously, the existing “Basic” plan without ads will be upgraded from 480p resolution to 720p, bringing it into high-definition territory; “Basic with Ads,” which will include 4-5 minutes of commercials per hour, will also be in 720p. Netflix’s “Standard” plan, the 1080p one you probably have, costs $15....

This past weekend saw the much-anticipated release of Jordan Peele’s third film, the tantalizingly named UFO thriller “Nope.” Billed by IndieWire’s chief film critic David Ehrlich as a “thoroughly modern popcorn movie for and about viewers who’ve been inundated with — and addicted to — 21st century visions of real-life terror,” the film follows the Haywood siblings (Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) and assorted friends and associates as they deal with the appearance of one very big, very bad extraterrestrial threat....

But because this type of bold experimentation required greater stylization and 3D augmentation than they were accustomed to, the directors tapped an outside the box specialist to supervise the three-minute Wolfvision footage: Eimhin McNamara, owner of the Paper Panther studio in Dublin. “We had absolutely no idea of what the finished look would be,” added Stewart. “But we knew that we had to have something really immersive and almost like a roller coaster ride so that when the audience are watching it, the people go, ‘Oh, wow, what the hell is this?...

The second season of Showtime’s “Work in Progress,” overseen Abby McEnany and collaborator Lilly Wachowski, not only grows on what the show planted in its first season, but also deepens the roots of what came before. The series, which revolutionized the types of queer stories that TV can tell, focuses on the character of Abby (played by McEnany), a fat, queer dyke (her words!), her circle of friends, her tumultuous love life, her ongoing psychological struggles, and in Season 2, a global pandemic....
