“Eternal Beauty” is directed by Craig Roberts, the young English actor best known for the films “Submarine,” “Neighbors,” and “The Fundamentals of Caring.” But he also starred in, and directed, 2015’s “Just Jim,” and it was in the edit on that coming-of-age film that Roberts came up with the character of Jane, a paranoid schizophrenic with mommy issues who stops taking her medication. He sent the script to Sally Hawkins, who first had to complete filming on “The Shape of Water,” Guillermo del Toro’s 2017 film that earned Hawkins a Best Actress Oscar nomination....

The third Disney Marvel release in just over four months, it opened below “Black Widow” ($80 million) and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” ($75 million). Sony also opened “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” last month, to $90 million. “Eternals” opening gross fell about 10 percent beneath already-skittish expectations. That may reflect ongoing uncertainty about theatrical exhibition recovery, but some common sense is in order. Three top Marvel releases, plus “Venom,” in such a short window should mean a decrease in interest....

Welcome back to the grungy, frightening, penis-filled world of “Euphoria.” You’re not going to love it. Despite the jarring familiarity of its opening sequence, Season 2 doesn’t live, like its predecessor, on the constant brink of disaster. While Rue Bennett (embodied by the magnificent, Emmy-winning Zendaya) is still pushed to the edge at every turn, her fellow high schoolers retreat into troubles more commonly experienced at that age: Relationships begin and end....
