The grand jury prizes went to Nikyatu Jusu‘s feature directorial debut “Nanny,” for the coveted U.S. Dramatic title, along with Christine Choy’s “The Exiles” for U.S. Documentary, Shaunak Sen’s “All That Breathes” for World Cinema Documentary, and Alejando Loayza Grisi’s “Utama” for World Cinema Dramatic. The Audience Awards were earned by U.S. documentary “Navalny” and Cooper Raiff’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth” for U.S. Dramatic. “Navalny” also won the Festival Favorite Award....

Earlier: Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead said that while the in-theaters release of their thriller “Synchronic,” starring Jamie Dornan and Anthony Mackie, was out of their hands, they don’t advise you see it in an actual theater. In an Instagram post on Friday (below), co-director Moorhead shared a statement, co-signed by co-director Benson and producer David Lawson, supporting the movie’s release in drive-in theaters and on video on demand, but not indoors....

Other Netflix Originals of note include Amy Poehler’s feminist teen comedy “Moxie” and the Notorious B.I.G. documentary “Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell,” while animation fans should keep an eye out for the gorgeous “Bombay Rose.” Older standouts — and it hurts to think of them as such — are limited to “Training Day” and the under-appreciated Clive Owen vehicle “Croupier.” Here are the seven best movies coming to Netflix this March....

The only question: Which movie? Judd Apatow co-writes, directs, and produces upcoming Netflix comedy “The Bubble,” about the makings of a fictional movie in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. While “The Bubble” will be available to stream April 1, the faux film at the center of its plot, “Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem,” alas will never hit theaters…especially if its director, played by Fred Armisen, can’t deliver a satisfying cut to the studio executive (Kate McKinnon)....

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Cultural Secretary Oliver Dowden said, “It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that.” “Without this,” he added, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.” Dowden is proposing a “health warning” to accompany the series, which he accuses of doing lasting damage to the monarchy and including Prince Charles....

As expected, “The Queen’s Gambit” director Scott Frank took home the DGA Award for Best Movie for Television or Limited Series, beating out the likes of Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) and Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”). “If I’m honest, I think this award is more a reflection of my uncanny ability to surround myself with people more talented than I am,” Frank said, adding that he’s “incredibly honored” to be given this award, as well as to be a guild member in general....

Based on the novel by Chris Bohjalian, “The Flight Attendant” wasn’t just a story about Cassie’s attempt to clear her name; she is the last person to have spent time with murder victim, Alex Sokolva (Michiel Huisman). It’s also a stark examination of addiction, as part of the reason Cassie is implicated in Alex’s murder has to do with her inability to remember anything that happened. “The Flight Attendant” was one of the first original series created for HBO Max and its success translated into nine Primetime Emmy Awards, including nominations in Best Lead and Supporting Actress for Kaley Cuoco and Rosie Perez, respectively....
