As expected, Searchlight’s American road movie “Nomadland” swept the awards on the way to more major Oscar wins Sunday, winning four including Best Feature, Director, Cinematography, and Editing. Zhao dedicated her Spirit award to the independent film community. “We wouldn’t be here without you,” she said. “we are part of a big family.” “Nomadland” star Frances McDormand lost Best Lead Female to an ebullient Carey Mulligan for “Promising Young Woman,” one of two wins, including Best Screenplay for Emerald Fennell, who is expected to win Original Screenplay at the Oscars....

Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated adaptation of “West Side Story” will be hitting theaters on December 10, which gives you plenty of time to catch up on the original film released in 1961. The Oscar-winning musical starring Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and Russ Tamblyn, was directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins with music from the late composer Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, who died this past Friday at 91....

Netflix’s “White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch” premieres on the streamer April 19. The documentary unstitches the clothing company’s rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and its surrounding discriminatory marketing campaigns and hiring practices that continued an “all-American” look for teenagers everywhere. Funnily enough, though, “Work It” is at its best when it’s not trying to imitate the beats of a genre that, while often entertaining, doesn’t provide much room for innovation beyond all that dancing. While there is comfort in the familiar, there’s also boredom, and anyone who has seen even one film centered on high schoolers dancing it up and making their way in the world (“Step Up,” “Bring It On,” “Save the Last Dance,” and the like) will know exactly where “Work It” is going....

Last year, “Better Call Saul” had the most nominations, while “The Crown” and “Ted Lasso” ultimately triumphed with the most wins. This year “The Crown” was not eligible — its next season won’t debut until November 2022 — but “Ted Lasso” was a contender for its second season. And predictably, it made out with a Comedy Series nomination, alongside “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hacks,” and “Only Murders in the Building” — “Hacks” and “Only Murders” also scored Best News Series nods....

With Rob Lowe” (via Uproxx), Galifianakis revealed a pair of sketches he pitched about Spears, who was then at the center of pop-culture everything thanks to her sophomore album “Oops!… I Did It Again.” According to Galifianakis, he said he noticed that the fast-rising pop star “showed her belly button a lot,” and so he pitched to the writers’ room an idea where a green screen would be used to “shrink” series cast member Will Ferrell, who would play a security guard installed inside Spears’ belly button....

In recent years, however, the grindhouse nihilism of Ferrara’s earlier work has been tempered by the personal acceptance of impending doom....
