Much of the episode is given over to Diana slowly realizing that, like many princesses stuck in a castle before her, she has fallen into a trap. But Goldman and Caron opened up the ways they shoot their Buckingham Palace sets to show how the demands of the Crown consume everyone on the eve of the fateful marriage. They force the jaws of the trap open wide with a pre-credits sequence of Diana’s night out with her friends after Charles (Josh O’Connor) proposes to her....

At a critical moment towards the end of Joanna Hogg’s magnificent “The Souvenir Part II” — the second and supposedly final portion of her self-portrait of an artist — the director’s young avatar is overcome by her frustrations with the student film she’s trying to make (itself an autobiographical story called “The Souvenir”). “I don’t want to see life as it was,” she stresses, “I want to see life as I imagine it to be....

National Geographic’s second season of “The Hot Zone” attempts to answer that question, or at least recreate what happened in those few weeks, months, and years after 9/11, when anthrax started working its way through the U.S. postal service. Starting three weeks after 9/11, the look and structure of the season feel akin to “Zero Dark Thirty,” with much of the series leaping between locations and times with little differentiating things other than onscreen text....

Other reported “The Mandalorian” Season 2 guest stars include comedian Bill Burr (“F Is For Family”), who will reprise his role as snarky mercenary Mayfeld, and sci-fi veteran Michael Biehn, who will play a bounty hunter with a connection to the Mandalorian. Timony Olyphant (“Deadwood,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”), will also reportedly portray a character in Season 2. “The Mandalorian” Season 1 was a massive hit with viewers — thanks in no small part to Baby Yoda’s social media-friendly face — and was well-received by most critics....

But while a certain amount of post-adolescent drift might be inevitable for anyone who doesn’t go full “Gilmore Girls,” the good news is that it’s never too late to close that gap. Not after the kid grows up. Not after the kid moves out. And, as it happens in the hyper-speed new animated family comedy from the producers behind “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” not even after the robot apocalypse....

We’ll have to wait and see if this translates to “The Queen’s Gambit” winning Outstanding Limited Series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards on September 19. Regardless, Frank assembled a talented team of craftspeople (including cinematographer Steven Meizler, production designer Uli Hanisch, costume designer Gabriele Binder, editor Michelle Tesoro, composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, and sound designer Wylie Stateman) for conveying an almost surreal mood and atmosphere to Beth’s rite of passage....
