“Madame X,” the new concert film centered around Madonna’s epic performances in Lisbon, Portugal, began streaming exclusively on Paramount+ on Friday. The film, directed by Ricardo Gomes and SKNX, delivers an unprecedented, intimate experience that takes viewers on a journey through Madonna’s theater tour as her fearless alter-ego, Madame X, a globe-trotting secret agent who travels around the world, fighting for freedom. “Sharing my vision with global audiences has been profoundly meaningful to me,” the 63-year-old icon said in a statement. “The opportunity to bring its message and the incandescent artistry of all involved to an even wider audience comes at a time when music is so deeply needed to remind us of the sacred bond of our shared humanity.” Madonna’s virtuoso performance in “Madame X” celebrates the pop legend’s 2019 studio album of the same name, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart. Madge’s 14th studio LP was inspired by her experiences in Lisbon, where she immersed herself in the country’s rich culture after moving there in the summer of 2017. The 75-date global tour — which grossed over $50 million — launched in New York City in September 2019 and wrapped in Paris in March 2020.
