With one more “Halloween” film to come in David Gordon Green’s planned trilogy, fans might expect there’s little room for big twists and turns in the series’ penultimate feature, “Halloween Kills.” Prepare to be shocked, as Green’s film concludes with some jaw-dropping moments, including two major sequences that follow Karen Nelson (Judy Greer), daughter of the iconic Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the unexpected heart of this second film. As Greer explained earlier this week to IndieWire, much of the action of “Halloween Kills” follows a familiar — and eerily prescient — path, as the good people of Haddonfield, IL, join together to finally end the reign of Michael Myers who, oops, is still not quite dead yet....

As delirious as Jessie Buckley’s character, a woman adrift in her relationship while on a fraught road trip to meet her boyfriend’s (Jesse Plemons) parents (Toni Colette and David Thewlis), becomes, so too is the audience plunged into a fragmenting mind whose sanity is shifting like tectonic plates, a seism just around the bend. That’s in part due to the music, which hurtles between genres, culminating in the film’s biggest set piece, a ballet that distills the entire narrative into a wildly choreographed metaphor....

Now, the first new trailer since 2019 has arrived, and it is a colorful celebration of life that the world needs right now. It tells the tale of Usnavi De La Vega (Anthony Ramos), a young bodega owner who dreams of leaving his Washington Heights home. But as gentrification starts encroaching deeper and deeper into the neighborhood, it causes Usnavi’s family and friends to evaluate their lives and the dreams they hold dear....

“It’s so difficult to manoeuvre,” Boyega said. “You get yourself involved in projects and you’re not necessarily going to like everything. [But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. In his first film role, Scott Cooper’s “Hostiles,” the actor portrayed a 19th-century corporal stationed in New Mexico. In the HBO supernatural horror TV series “Lovecraft Country,” he was a World War II veteran returning home to the monsters of white supremacy. He even portrayed the son of a PTSD-afflicted, Trump-voting veteran in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods.” The military is not only in Majors’ name, it’s in his DNA: His father was in the Air Force....

“I actually don’t think, ultimately, that she minds it,” Hahn said. “She needed to rest for a hot second. She’s been very restless. I think she was very lonely, for a very, very long time. She loves having the companionship — loves the mailman, loves Ralph, loves Dottie. For the moment, I think she’s actually OK to just loosen the corset and sit and have a muffin and a latte.”...

The filmmaker’s “Strange Adventures” DC comic book anthology series has been axed by Warner Bros. Discovery and will not be moving forward at HBO Max, whose representatives confirmed the news to IndieWire. Smith was set to co-write and direct an episode of “Strange Adventures” as part of the anthology series around lesser-known DC characters. Smith recently shared on his “Hollywood Babble-On” YouTube show that HBO Max scrapped the series, executive-produced by Greg Berlanti....
