Variety reported on Thursday that Pfeiffer, who starred in recent films such as the upcoming “French Exit,” as well as “mother!,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” will portray Betty Ford, who served as First Lady of the United States from 1974 to 1977. Susanne Bier will direct and executive-produce the hour-long series. The filmmaker most recently served as the director behind HBO’s “The Undoing,” and prior, Netflix’s “Bird Box,” but also helmed Danish favorites including “After the Wedding” and “Open Hearts....

Speaking to MTV! News (via NME), Brown admitted, “I’ve never watched a Marvel film. I’ve never watched a DC film. Mo is a Palestinian refugee whose mother, sister, and older brother flee to Houston while trying for U.S. citizenship. “Laughing the pain away, Mo learns to adapt to his new world though getting ahead in life comes with several setbacks,” the Netflix series description states. “Mo” premieres August 24....

Perhaps talk about Emily Atef’s bleakly funereal “More Than Ever” as an abrupt bookend to Ulliel’s career will overshadow the fact that this is a rare film that allows the cruelty of chronic disease to play out with pessimistic finality, giving space for its subject to be selfish even if that means opting for the cruelest way to say goodbye to those you’re leaving behind....

Twisted true crime doc “My Old School” centers on Brandon Lee, a seemingly 16-year-old prodigy who enrolls himself at a prestigious high school outside of Glasgow, Scotland after claiming to have been privately tutored in Canada. The catch: Lee has multiple passports, like “retro” music, and physically stands out from his peers. Director Jono McLeod interviewed the real-life Lee who set 1990s Scotland ablaze following a nationwide scandal. However, Lee refused to be filmed for the documentary, so his interview was lip-synced by famed actor Alan Cumming, who portrays Lee in the film....

Netflix even made its way to the industry event, while WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal’s new HBO Max and Peacock streaming services finally had the chance to strut their stuff to television journalists and critics. Still, the format — with panelists teleconferencing in for panels and journalists typing their questions into a queue — made for a stripped down and uncharacteristically low-key event that boasted far less announcements than official, fully attended TCAs of the past....
