This year’s TIFF runs September 8 through 18, with in-person festivities the festival’s main focus after largely virtual events the last couple of years. (A digital component, however, will still be part of this year’s fest.) Directed by Michael Grandage, “My Policeman” adds to the festival’s previously announced world-premiere offerings. Those include Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King,” starring Viola Davis,” and Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” the sequel starring seemingly everyone but especially Daniel Craig, back on the case as Benoit Blanc....

It turns out, the script for the psychological thriller only referenced a “trigger song” to haunt Styles’ character Jack and his wife Alice (Florence Pugh) as they navigate a darkly sinister 1950s suburbia. “In prep, Harry called me and said, ‘What’s the trigger song? Like, what’s the melody?’ I said, ‘I don’t know. I’m going to different writers to write it. Do you have anything in mind?’” director Wilde revealed to Variety....

WarnerMedia announced on Friday that all seasons of Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show,” “Nathan For You,” “Key & Peele,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” and “Reno 911!” will be available on HBO Max at the start of the month. The impending availability of the shows marks a further bulking up of HBO Max’s comedy library; the streaming service already offers streaming for the complete libraries of popular shows such as “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Rick and Morty,” and “Friends....

Viewers who stayed through the end of the first film, one of 2019’s most acclaimed movies, might’ve caught the “insurance policy,” as Hogg called it in an interview with IndieWire, inscribed in the end credits: “Part II coming soon.” Hogg said that was her own personal self-guarantee. “The financiers weren’t going to tell me I couldn’t do it,” she said. Like the best sequels, “Souvenir: Part II” heightens the stakes for its central character and adds a new layer to her journey....

After making history with the highest premiere ratings ever, viewership for Episode 2 of “House of the Dragon” increased by two percent for the next episode, tallying 10.2 million viewers domestically across HBO Max and linear telecasts, based on a combination of Nielsen and first party data. The series premiere of “House of the Dragon” is now approaching 25 million viewers in the U.S. after one week of availability on the streamer....

Conducted in early 2020 (prior to recent nationwide racial justice protests), at the center of the study is the documentary “Always in Season,” an award-winning 2019 documentary which follows the tragedy of Black teenager Lennon Lacy who, in August of 2014, was found hanging from a swing set in North Carolina. His suspicious death was ruled a suicide by local law enforcement, but Lennon’s family believed Lennon was lynched. Directed by Jacqueline Olive, the film chronicles Claudia’s quest to learn the truth and takes a closer look at the lingering impact of over a century of the lynching of African Americans and connects this form of historic racial terrorism to racial violence today....
