The film drew controversy even in its production stages for bringing on nonprofessional, underage actors and exposing them to an unruly set where drugs were readily available, and anything resembling an intimacy coordinator was nonexistent. In a new interview with Deadline, one of the film’s actors Hamilton Harris opened up about the traumatic aftermath of starring in the movie, especially given that two of his co-stars, Justin Pierce and Harold Hunter, died young amid tragic circumstances in the years after the film’s release....

The official synopsis for “Land” from Focus Features reads as follows: “From acclaimed actress Robin Wright comes her directorial debut ‘Land,’ the poignant story of one woman’s search for meaning in the vast and harsh American wilderness. Edee (Wright), facing unbearable demons, finds herself unable to stay connected to the world she once knew and retreats to the magnificent, but unforgiving, wilds of the Rockies. After a local hunter (Bichir) brings her back from the brink of death, she must find a way to live again....

So why is this a good thing? Most Oscar voters have never heard of “Minari.” After the movie burst out of Sundance 2020 with rave reviews and the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award, A24 was juggling release options, knowing that despite all their best efforts, indie box office smash “The Farewell” ($17.7 million domestic) never landed an Oscar nomination, instead taking home Best Feature at the Independent Spirit Awards....

All of those short films made their world premieres during a special Tribeca Film Festival event at Pier 76 this week, with Waithe and Indeed CEO Chris Hyams in attendance. In an interview with IndieWire shortly before the screenings, Hyams and Waithe explained how the partnership emerged from the wider goals of Indeed itself. “Our mission was to help people get jobs and see how important a job is in a person’s life and their family and their community,” Hyams said....

But, as revealed in a new deep dive into the movie in Variety, some elements from the original, Tony-scoring musical had to be refurbished to bring it to the screen in a 2021 world. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes, who wrote the book for the musical as well as the screenplay for the movie, not only had to update the storylines to have more timely resonance with DACA — they also had to cut Trump’s name from the lyrics of the song “96,000....

“The Instigators” sees Damon and Affleck play thieves who have to go on the run with one of their therapists following a failed robbery. Doug Liman, who directed Damon in the “Bourne Identity” film series, is attached to helm the film, based on a script by Chuck MacLean, best known for creating the Showtime series “City on a Hill.” Affleck developed the current project with Jeff Robinov and John Graham. In addition to starring, Damon will produce the film with Ben Affleck for Artists Equity....
