One of the more anticipated video game adaptations hoping to build on that momentum is “The Last of Us,” HBO’s upcoming show based on the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic game. The show has some serious pedigree attached to it, with “Chernobyl” writer Craig Mazin teaming up with the game’s creator Neil Druckmann to run the show. “There’s a very, very creative way of honoring what’s important and also preserving what is iconic to the experience of the video game, and also things that you wouldn’t necessarily expect,” Pascal said....

Deadline reported that the move came after Paramount decided the current pandemic conditions would not be ideal for the launch of the tentpoles. It’s the latest sign that the COVID release-date shuffle that has plagued movies for the last year-and-a-half is far from over. “Top Gun: Maverick,” the first sequel for the 1986 Tom Cruise actioner, was slated for release in June 2020, but that’s been changed several times. Most recently it was set for a pre-Thanksgiving release on November 19....

In March, the festival announced that it would “transform prominent locations into an expansive 12-day multi-screen outdoor celebration” held this month, and is believed to be first major North American film festival to mount such an in-person event. Director Jon M. Chu’s long-awaited “In the Heights,” adapted from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, will open the 20th anniversary edition of Tribeca on June 9.
