Scheduled pre-COVID for theatrical release April 17, “Love and Monsters” (original title: “Monster Problems”) is no. 1 at both Apple TV and FandangoNow. Budgeted at $30 million, this adventure comedy led by”Maze Runner” and “Teen Wolf” star Dylan O’Brien, is not unlike “Zombieland” in its use of a young hero fighting off monsters in a dystopian society. It’s the only new PVOD title this week, so it’s unsurprising to see its high placement at FandangoNow, which ranks its charts by revenue....

In a recent press conference (via Entertainment Weekly), Luke revealed that he was living with Owen while they were filming their respective TV shows, and the experience was a strange one. “We shared a house,” Luke told reporters. “I don’t know if you’ve ever lived with anyone in the Marvel universe but odd people. Very, very odd people.” Luke Wilson also (and partially joking) went on to say that he “never did understand the plot of ‘Loki’” despite living with his brother at the time....

Follow any character around the same idyllic and playful post-war environments for half a century and they’ll start to feel timeless, but even Lupin’s rare excursions into more recent history have been defined by an intrinsic “Lupin-ness” that makes it feel as if Monkey Punch’s magnum opus could be with us forever (Katō died in 2019). Whatever he looks like, wherever he goes, and whenever he gets there, Lupin will always be stealing priceless treasure from people who don’t deserve it....

If a CGI crocodile with the dulcet tenor of a pop idol seems at odds with Waber’s freehand illustrations, Javier Bardem is perfectly in step as eccentric showman Hector P. Valenti, star of stage and screen. Bardem’s lesser-seen playful side is on full display in “Lyle,” as he hoofs his way across New York City with madcap gusto. The minute he leaves the croc to fend for himself at the house on East 88th Street, his absence is sorely felt by all — not just lonely Lyle....

“Margaret” is largely about coming to terms with the fact that you are only the center of your own universe, and not anyone else’s, and it stars Anna Paquin in a career-best performance as stubborn teenager Lisa. She’s a high-school student who flirts with her math teacher (Matt Damon), defies her stage-actress, single mother Joan (J. Smith-Cameron), and eventually causes a fatal bus crash involving Mark Ruffalo as the driver and Allison Janney as the pedestrian in the crosshairs....

The pandemic’s pall hovered over Comic-Con. Entering the convention center required COVID verification wristbands and masks, but those precautions came late and caused confusion. Some panels were always virtual, like the one I hosted for “Abbott Elementary,” but one for fellow ABC shows “The Rookie” and “The Rookie: Feds” went virtual at the last minute. A disappointed heckler yelled, “We’ve been virtual for three years, c’mon!” However, that wasn’t the biggest disappointment: Too many of the in-person panels lacked substance....

Among those, only “Beavis and Butt-Head” has continued to make a comeback, first with new episodes produced in 2011, and now with a busy summer that includes both the new feature-length “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe” and “Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head,” both of which are out now on Paramount+. In the movie, the two morons travel from the ’90s to the present day; they remain there for the new episodes, as their signature couch commentary now applies to online videos and social media....
