Netflix Pauses Russian Projects Acquisitions Amid Invasion

Earlier: Netflix has paused all productions and acquisitions out of Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine, according to a just-published report in Variety. Representatives at Netflix could not immediately be reached for comment from IndieWire. Netflix reportedly had four Russian original projects in the works. One project affected is a crime thriller series currently in production that has now been put on hold. The neo-noir mystery series “ZATO” was set to be the streamer’s first original series filmed in Russia....

Nickelodeon S Dan Schneider Accused Of Sexualizing Child Stars

“Sam and Cat” actress Jeannette McCurdy, who co-starred opposite Grande in the “iCarly” spinoff series, alleged in her memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” that a Nickelodeon “creator” (believed to be Schneider) frequently supplied children with alcohol and requested massages on set. McCurdy alleged she was offered $300,000 in “hush money” to not come forward about the abuse; she declined the payment. The claims mirror those that have followed Schneider for years, and the showrunner was fired by Nickelodeon in 2018 following an investigation that found he had verbally abused colleagues....

Nintendo Allegedly Scrapped Legend Of Zelda Series Due To Leaks

The Wall Street Journal reported in 2015 that Netflix was working on a live-action “The Legend of Zelda” television show and described the project as “‘Game of Thrones’ for a family audience.” The project was in its early stages at the time and casting details and a prospective release date were never provided. The Journal’s article proved to be the “Zelda” show’s undoing and also inadvertently killed another television adaptation of one of Nintendo’s oldest franchises, according to Adam Conover, the creator of TruTV’s “Adam Ruins Everything....

Nope What Was Shot In Imax

With “Nope,” horror director Jordan Peele (“Us,” “Get Out”) was ready to tackle an unconventional, big budget, UFO summer thriller. It’s a flipped-out “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as horse-trainer siblings who try to capture the existence of a flying saucer on film as the impossible “money shot.” Along the way, their journey is filled with bizarre terror and mayhem, which makes “Nope” a spectacle about spectacle: an ode to the theatrical experience, but, at the same time, a deep exploration of “our addiction to spectacle,” according to Peele....

Painting With John Hbo Max John Lurie Show Is Pure Art Meditation

Where to Watch “Painting with John”: HBO Max I don’t envy the person who has to write the episode descriptions for “Painting with John.” It is true that “John recounts how the obsession he and his brother had for John Coltrane’s ‘Live at Birdland’ resulted in an unfortunate Sunday breakfast” is an accurate statement about the contents of the third episode. But a few words summarizing a couple distinct anecdotes from the life of John Lurie is a drop in the lake of things that give this show its value....

Pam And Tommy Finale Dolly Parton Originally Refused Song Use

As music supervisor, Amanda Thomas has crafted the needle drops for not just “Pam & Tommy,” but several of Ryan Murphy’s series as well as the popular FX series “The Americans.” Though needle drop moments have felt more pronounced over the last year, particularly as the nostalgic bent of many series require going through the archives of popular music, Thomas said during a recent Zoom interview that much depends on the show....
