180 Degree Rule Review Iranian Family Drama Starts Strong

In her previous series of short films, Samadi turned her attention to the kind of thorny, character-rich dramas often associated with contemporary Iranian cinema (shades of Asghar Farhadi’s “A Separation” are not hard to find in “180 Degree Rule”). For her feature directorial debut, Samadi again takes on well-drawn characters trapped in horrifying circumstances, many of which spring from the fabric of Iranian life. Yet, stretched over the course of a feature — a very brisk 83 minutes — the filmmaker fails to connect her leading lady with a tragic, nearly repulsive drama that only seems to exist to provoke, never to serve the characters that populate it....

Aftersun Review Paul Mescal Shines In Charlotte Wells Amazing Debut

A stunning debut that develops with the gradual poignancy of a Polaroid, Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun” isn’t just an honest movie about the way that we remember the people we’ve lost — fragmented, elusive, nowhere and everywhere all at once — it’s also a heart-stopping act of remembering unto itself. Here, in the span of an oblique but tender story that feels small enough to fit on an instant photo (or squeeze into the LCD screen of an old camcorder), Wells creates a film that gradually echoes far beyond its frames....

Alfonso Cuar N Loved Robert Eggers Viking Movie The Northman

Expectations were destined to be high for his third feature, and rather than rest on his laurels, Eggers chose to take on the most ambitious project of his career. “The Northman” is a viking revenge epic that has captured the film community’s attention for its historical accuracy and infamously difficult 87 day shoot.
