But they could not kill Fred Hampton’s legacy and, 50 years later, his words about revolution still echo, maybe louder than ever. Shaka King’s latest feature, “Judas and the Black Messiah,” aims to tell this story, and a blazing first trailer makes it look like one of the film events of the year. In 1968, the young, charismatic activist became chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, who were fighting for freedom, the power to determine the destiny of the Black community, and an end to police brutality and the murdering of Black people....

“You’re fat, your hair is gross, you smell, you majored in the wrong thing in college, you don’t have enough friends, why don’t you know how to cook, you don’t remember enough people’s birthdays.” The dulcet tones of Theroux ring out in voiceover, as the eponymous Violet (Olivia Munn) takes it all in, staring blankly, her eyes averted just beyond the camera’s lens. It’s an immersive and unsettling start to the film, but it does exactly what Bateman wants: We’re in the cacophony of Violet’s own head, a place filled with all the fears that the unnamed inner voice spits back at her....

In starring in “Raya and the Last Dragon” and giving voice to the title character, Tran joins a long line of Disney Princesses, from classics such as Snow White and Cinderella, to newer inventions like Merida and Moana. That alone would be understandably intimidating, but “Raya’ came with some added pressure for the “Star Wars” star. As Raya, Tran is also cast as the Mouse House’s first Southeast Asian Princess; while the film takes places in a fantastical land called Kumandra, it was inspired by Southeast Asian cultures from Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines....

Starring recent Emmy-winner Annie Murphy (“Schitt’s Creek”) as Allison McRoberts, a liquor store clerk stuck in a rough marriage that looks uglier every second, “Kevin Can F Himself” wastes no time justifying its title. Kevin (Eric Petersen) is introduced playing beer pong in the living room, red cups placed perilously above a soon-to-be-stained rug. His neighbor Neil (Alex Bonifer) is his doomed opponent, while Kevin’s father, Pete (Brian Howe), and Neil’s roommate and sister, Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden), serve as wisecracking spectators....

The “Naked Gun” trilogy starred Leslie Nielsen as a gullible detective in a police procedural parody. The original film premiered in 1988, with subsequent sequels — “The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear” and “Naked Gun 33 1/2: The Final Insult” — debuting in 1991 and 1994, respectively. “I turn 70 this year, so I’m still getting away with it,” Neeson said, before admitting his time is limited as an action star....
