Netflix’s official synopsis for “The Sandman” reads: “A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven, ‘The Sandman’ follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.” Gaiman is executive producing the adaptation alongside David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg. The creative team has long attempted to bring “The Sandman” to the big screen, including a failed movie adaptation in 2013 with Joseph Gordon-Levitt attached to star....

As reported by The Verge: “Behind the scenes, Netflix scrambled to minimize public backlash by suppressing the film in search results prior to its release. It removed ‘Cuties’ from the ‘coming soon’ and ‘popular searches’ categories and excluded it from queries for ‘cute.’ It then adjusted its algorithm so searches for the film would not surface ‘steamy / sexual titles’ or kids’ movies.” According to internal documents reviewed by The Verge, Netflix said in its own words that it was dealing with the “Cuties” backlash by “suppress[ing] promotion and related search queries....

The film, shot during the pandemic, stars Don Cheadle, Benicio del Toro, David Harbour, Ray Liotta, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin, Noah Jupe, Craig muMs Grant, Julia Fox, Frankie Shaw, and Bill Duke. Set in 1954 Detroit, per an official synopsis, “the story centers on a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them — and for what ultimate purpose — weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn, rapidly changing city....

Horror maestro Jordan Peele is back with his latest mysterious horror offering, “Nope,” the director’s first film since 2019’s “Us.” This time, he’s lined up a new cast, including Steven Yeun and Keke Palmer, while reuniting with his “Get Out” Best Actor nominee Daniel Kaluuya. Universal Pictures dropped the first footage from the film before Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI. Watch the trailer below. While plot details remain scarce, we know that Universal Pictures (the studio behind “Get Out” and “Us”) will release the film July 22, and this first look at the film offers some tantalizing new details....

The online backlash to China’s censorship of “Fight Club” successfully restored (most) of the original ending for the film. After reports came out that streaming service Tencent Video had edited the famed ending featuring the Narrator (Edward Norton) killing his split personality Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and blowing up a city skyline with love interest Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), Tencent Video has since released the original ending online. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Tencent has restored 11 out of the 12 minutes it originally cut from the film’s climax....
