You know you’re in calm hands as the opening credits fade in and out without pageantry across the chilly backdrop of the Pacific Northwestern woods, where Rob (Nicolas Cage) lives on the land with his pig. His only interaction (and ostensibly his only source of income) is with Amir (Alex Wolff), a smarmy rich kid who buys the truffles Rob’s pig unearths and hauls them back to Portland. But Rob’s ecosystem is thrown horrifically out of orbit when, in the middle of the night, two people beat him over the head and run off with the pig, squealing into the night....

This rapid response parallels what happened last February when Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 “Contagion” flew high with its story that paralleled the then-emergent COVID-19 pandemic....

Vudu, where “Scream” is #1 for the week, ranks by revenue spent. That means it had more than four times as many transactions as #2, “Sing 2” (Universal), which costs $19.99 (lowered this week from $24.99). That’s a strong showing. “Sing 2” has spent nearly two months on the charts. Still #6 in theaters this weekend, it has been among the top PVOD titles daily since its debut. Along with “Scream,” it is one of four titles to place on all three charts....

“I think people like finding out about people who are associated with the things that they love, and the fact that this medium is so collaborative,” Goldberg told IndieWire. “It wasn’t just me doing The Genie.
