Rookie streaming service HBO Max has announced a limited series revival of creator Darren Star’s “Sex and the City,” titled “And Just Like That,” named for one of Carrie’s classic quips whenever the proverbial other shoe (sorry) dropped. But just like that, it’s a predictably amputated version, because Kim Cattrall won’t be returning to the series as Samantha Jones. It’s now up to the writers to find a creative way to write her out of the series (and judging from a Twitter exchange between Sarah Jessica Parker and journalist Taffy Brodesser-Akner, that drawing board is still blank....

“The challenge for me was to convey the feeling of seeing live dance,” Coppola told The New York Times. “A lot of dance is filmed in a very flat, standard way. But getting close up, which is thrilling in rehearsal, doesn’t always translate onto film either. I had to move the camera much more than I am used to, and try to give the feel of experiencing a live performance from different vantage points....

This year will be different. This year, we have “Squid Game.” Netflix’s surprise blockbuster series “Squid Game” will be eligible at next year’s Emmy Awards, not a sure thing given the show’s international production. However, this was not a Netflix acquisition; the streamer developed the series and shaped its domestic distribution plans with an eye toward meeting eligibility requirements for the Primetime Emmy Awards. That said: Let the record show that Netflix confirmed to IndieWire that, while there is no Season 2 pickup yet, the show will compete in Drama Series categories, not Limited Series — where Netflix will already have the critically acclaimed “Maid” in competition....

The intensive is designed and led by Moi Santos, Sundance Institute Outreach & Inclusion and Indigenous Programs Coordinator, and includes guidance from experienced creative advisors including Sam Feder, Yance Ford, Tourmaline, and Ro Haber. The selected fellows include Ava Davis, StormMiguel Florez, River Gallo, Carol Grant, Mitchell (MiSha) Owens, and Savannah Ward. They were nominated by the Institute’s allied organizations, including organizations working with emerging transgender artists of color, and peers within the Sundance Artist Programs....

The promise of shooting a movie on your iPhone is often irresistible for filmmakers. Film is a very capital intensive art form, leaving countless great story ideas unmade due to financial or logistical hurdles. So any time a barrier to entry is removed and the medium finds itself a little more democratized, movie lovers’ eyes get a little wider and we all start to plan our masterpieces. The idea that the phone you already carry in your pocket can be used to pursue your Hollywood dreams is exhilirating....

Disney’s Marvel spin-off took the top spot at Apple TV and FandangoNow, while Russell Crowe’s stalker thriller is #1 at Google Play. Two items of note: “Mutants” shows its strength by taking the top spot at Fandango, which ranks by revenue, not transactions; that’s impressive for a standard-price title. Unlike “Mutants,” “Unhinged” had a PVOD release and now sees a revival at its lower price. These two titles were the only ones to place on three charts....

The most infamously cringe Michael Scott moment, though, proved to be the Season 6, Episode 12, titled “Scott’s Tots,” where Michael tries to dodge the fact that he promised a group of 15 students he would pay for their college tuition through the fictional Michael Scott Foundation if they graduated high school. “Hey, Mr. Scott, whatcha going to do? Make our dreams come true!” the students iconically sing to the tune of “Bad Boys” once Michael shows up in their classroom....
