Others were less swayed by the sweet melodrama, but IndieWire’s review saw some of its charms: “‘The Tender Bar’ is a pleasantly anecdotal amble down memory lane which features amusing one-liners, nostalgic production design, warm, soft, golden-brown lighting, and an efficient if anonymous directorial style: Clooney’s one flourish is a split-screen sequence over the closing credits. … The film paints an attractive, Spielbergian picture of all-American 1970s domestic clutter, combined with a Scorsese-ish vision of countless talkative relatives bustling between the kitchen and the dinner table....

Here’s the official synopsis: “Steeped in ancient Jewish lore and demonology, ‘The Vigil’ is supernatural horror film set over the course of a single evening in Brooklyn’s Hasidic Borough Park neighborhood. Low on funds and having recently left his insular religious community, Yakov (Dave Davis) reluctantly accepts an offer from his former rabbi and confidante (Menashe Lustig) to take on the responsibility of an overnight ‘shomer,’ fulfilling the Jewish practice of watching over the body of a deceased community member....

So it’s series like “The Wine Show” that best work around the problem by making food its main dish (or, in this case, the beverage paired with it), but surrounding it with plenty of other courses. Some of those arrive in the form of its presenters: Season 3, now available to stream on Acorn and Sundance Now after premiering in the U.K. last fall, adds Dominic West to the existing trio of James Purefoy, Matthew Goode, and Matthew Rhys....

The film follows Richardson’s Veronica, a Missouri teen who is shocked to discover she is pregnant, and who sets off on a road trip with her former best pal Bailey (Ferreira) in hopes of securing an abortion so that she can continue to pursue her Ivy League college dreams. If the film sounds a bit like a light-hearted spin on Eliza Hittman’s recent indie gem and Sundance standout “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” that’s not entirely off-base....

Tim Minchin, who also serves as a co-writer, co-director, and composer, plays Lochlyn “Lucky” Flynn, an aptly down-on-his-luck ex-member of an Aussie rock band who — through a series of events drip-fed to audiences over eight, half-hour episodes — is now penniless and alone. With nothing but an old piano in tow, Lucky sets off to drive from Sydney to Perth (roughly 2,400 miles) in order to see his dying mother one last time....
