For any individual title, being number one on Netflix is an impressive feat. The Netflix library has 17,000 pieces of content, more than half of which are originals or exclusives. However, quality and quantity — for both subs and for programming — are getting harder to come by. The streamer began sharing its weekly Top 10 in late June/early July 2021. Of the 62 weeks Netflix has measured thus far, by our count 42 had a number-one show with more than twice the viewership of “Echoes” last week....

While Baumbach has worked with Netflix on his last two movies, this new partnership marks the first overall deal struck between the filmmaker and the streamer. First out of the gate under the new partnership will be “White Noise,” Baumbach’s adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name. Baumbach will produce the film alongside “Marriage Story” producer David Heyman. “White Noise” filming will begin later this year. According to reports, frequent Baumbach collaborators Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig are set to star in the lead roles....

HBO Max’s synopsis for “One Perfect Shot” states that “each episode arms one acclaimed director with an arsenal of visual tools to pull back the curtain on their most iconic shots. Using state of the art technology, the directors will literally enter each shot, walking through the scene in 360 moments that allow viewers to join an immersive exploration of moviemaking. Filmmakers will share their obstacles, challenges, lessons, and triumphs as they detail how they created their crowning cinematic achievements....

It’s the latest shift in the changing documentary and independent filmmaking world, in addition to being the next chapter in the collaboration between CNN Films and Points North Institute, which in 2015 established an annual Filmmaker Retreat with Tribeca Film Institute. TFI earlier this year indefinitely “paused” its operations. Another former TFI program, IF/Then Shorts, recently moved to Field of Vision as TFI wound down. “While there is no question this has been a challenging year for independent filmmakers, there’s also no question that there has never been a more pivotal moment to support independent storytellers and stories that represent where America is today,” said Ben Fowlie, executive and artistic director of the Points North Institute, in an official statement....

“Dan brought parameters of likes and dislikes, and initially one of the notes said that he wanted this [Predator] to elicit more horror,” said SFX supervisor Alec Gillis, who, with co-SFX supervisor Tom Woodruff, runs the acclaimed ADI special effects company that also works on the “Alien” and “Godzilla” franchises. “So that got us talking about whether or not this could have been the origins of demonic spirits in the eyes of the Native people, such as the Wendigo....

“If there’s a way in which people can find themselves in this moment, and can feel inspired and connected on a deeper level, I’m all for it,” Ahmed told Deadline about his history-making Oscar nomination. “Whether they see me as the first British Pakistani, or the first guy from Wembley, you know, there’s so many ways to view it. Deadline reported that Rudy Giuliani was unveiled as a contestant on “The Masked Singer.” The season seven reveal during the FOX primetime singing competition, which hasn’t yet aired, allegedly led to judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke leaving the stage in protest. Fellow judges Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger remained on set and “bantered” with Giuliani, per Deadline. Variety reported that FOX “refuses to acknowledge leaks, maintaining the series’ policy against confirming ‘spoilers....
