Here’s the official synopsis: Garner is a two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her turn as the foul-mouthed, tenacious Ruth on Netflix’s “Ozark,” which returns to the streamer on January 21 for Season 4, just a few weeks before “Inventing Anna” premieres. The rest of the cast includes Anna Chlumsky, Arian Moayed, Katie Lowes, Alexis Floyd, Anders Holm, Anna Deavere Smith, Jeff Perry, Terry Kinney, and Laverne Cox....

These are all relevant facts to bring up now, because new French-language documentary “Jane by Charlotte,” a portrait of the mother by the daughter, doesn’t discuss them. Perhaps operating under the assumption that no one unfamiliar with Birkin would watch a documentary about her, Gainsbourg instead veers too far to the other extreme, offering almost no context for their unstructured conversations, reminiscences, and chats. Late in the film, Birkin speaks movingly about the days after the death of her oldest daughter Kate, when she couldn’t move beyond her own grief to the sadness of Charlotte and sister Lou....

His lifelong regard as a master is a tribute to his films above all, but it also speaks to a cinephile culture that elevated and supported him for decades despite the general public’s disinterest. In the U.S., Godard’s films initially received erratic distribution with short-run showings at a few big-city theaters; even his best-known titles like “Breathless” and “Week-end” received marginal releases. They appeared erratically, out of order, and sometimes not until two or three years after their public debuts....

“Kathryn Hahn, was so delicious to work with!” Olsen said. “She really was like, ‘We are witches. How amazing is that? Like, we are these powerful women who men are terrified by, and they had to murder us because they were so scared of our power and our temptation and everything that is so mysterious about being a woman. Women were weaponized, so to have this ownership of witches, again, is really fun!...

“BRZRKR,” according to the streamer, is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else....

“There’s a streak in Benioff that’s willful,” Cunningham said. “He likes to stir the shit. When we first meet Daenerys, Benioff and [director Mark Mylod] wanted Davos to have a crush on Missandei. And I fought them. I’m not fucking doing it. It’s the only thing I ever stood up to them on. The woman is a goddess, but with Davos’ history with Lyanna Mormont and Shireen, you can’t have him getting the hots for a young woman....

Unfortunately, the movie is a treacly slog with a screenplay that fails the storied talent of its elder lead, and the promising gifts of his younger counterpart. Even the shimmering Italian countryside can’t rescue “Made in Italy” from banality, and a pat premise that leaves no room for irreverence or the unexpected. Jack (Richardson) is a floundering mid-20something, the recently divorced manager of an art gallery. It all seems like the makings of a cushy dream gig for a cash-strapped quarter-lifer, until his ex-wife brusquely informs him that her family, who owns the gallery, is pulling the plug on the space....
