Season 3, and the jump to the year 3188 with its attendant mystery of “What caused the Burn?,” hasn’t really turned out like we thought, huh? The obvious answer to the season-long mystery would have been some sinister power from “Trek” past, possibly setting up a Dominion War-like arc for the future. Instead, the Burn was caused by a Kelpien man-child’s emotional distress and his unique ability to inflict his damage on the whole galaxy....

The news comes just over two years after Jackson replaced longtime festival director John Cooper, who worked in that capacity for over a decade. Jackson was the first woman, the first person of color, and the first person from outside the United States to hold the position at the festival. She is a Sundance veteran who headed up the festival’s Documentary Film Program and advocated for adventurous forms of non-fiction storytelling....

“The Human Factor” drills down on the fluctuating tensions between Yasser Arafat and Israel’s revolving door of leadership. By speaking exclusively to the handful of negotiators involved in America’s efforts to broker a deal, Moreh’s focused collection of talking heads and archival footage is limited to a handful of takeaways about what went wrong. It turns out some policy wonks make eloquent storytellers and they excel at putting their own failings in context....

In just a few scenes, Hunter contorts her expressive body in unreal ways, snarls her voice into myriad tones and registers, and works the text like a true master. It’s a stunning performance that easily pulls all the focus, (yes, even from Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand), the kind of rarely seen onscreen performance that undoubtedly deserves awards. Hunter’s performance feels rare not only because of the way she looks, sounds, and moves, but also the tremendous amount of collaboration went into the process....

“The White Lotus” is created, written, and directed by White, who also serves as an executive producer alongside David Bernad (HBO’s “Enlightened” and “7 Days in Hell”) and Nick Hall (HBO’s “We Are Who We Are”). The series is co-executive produced by Mark Kamine. White previously created “Enlightened” for HBO; the comedy series was critically acclaimed and ran for two seasons from 2011 to 2013 before being cancelled due to low ratings....

“That was ultimately Furiosa’s movie, which was fantastic. ‘Fury Road.’ Furiosa. It was in the title,” Hardy said about “Fury Road,” which remains one of the most acclaimed action movies ever made. “It was interesting how that one unpacked. If you look at it now, it was a changeover of hands in a way, from Mad Max to Furiosa. That’s what they’re filming now. ‘Furiosa.’ It was a very well implemented changing of the guard....

Jackson in “Pulp Fiction,” and a selection of jewelry from Elizabeth Taylor’s personal collection. There are also plenty of artifacts for moviegoers who prefer contemporary films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will be well represented at the auction, with items including Chris Evans’ shield from Captain America: The First Avenger” and Chris Hemsworth’s hammer from “Thor: The Dark World,” plus a large collection of “Harry Potter” movie memorabilia....
