“Army of the Dead” follows a group of mercenaries into zombie-infested Las Vegas, where they attempt to pull off “the greatest heist ever attempted.” The film, which doesn’t yet have a release date for 2021, features an international cast of Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, Samantha Win. The film’s follow-up projects will reunite Snyder with a host of collaborators....

The biggest stretch of the imagination here is that the conflict between Russian and Ukraine has superficially ended, but its trickling, traumatic effects still linger. Especially for former soldier Sergey (Andriy Rymaruk), who nows toils in a foundry, addled by PTSD. In the open shot of the film, he’s seen with Ivan (a powerfully stoic Vasyl Antoniak), his only friend and also a broken veteran, installing a firing range aside a snow-dappled bluff....

That of course is a major positive sign for the film, with December 26 also a holiday that has usually grossed even better than Christmas. With eight more days of holiday play through January 2, based on the Christmas Day performance, James Cameron’s film could see an additional $150 million or more domestic box office added to its total. That would get it significantly over $400 million, before a fairly free ride for several weeks as the likely #1, even with decreasing totals....

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are likely to look a lot different this year. Even with loosened restrictions on movie theaters, indoor dining, and other places frequented before the pandemic, bars have yet to return to their full glory, and if you’re the type to stay home, a movie marathon is a low-key way to spend the holiday. If you’re not interested in bundling services, Disney+ offers subscriptions at $7.99 a month, or $79....

While Cage’s latest creative renaissance is hopefully still just getting started, his current upswing was always going to be pockmarked by its fair share of forgettably solid genre films. We’re talking respectable programmers with compromised scripts, cool supporting casts, and just enough credibility to stride onto Redbox with their heads held high. The kind of movie whose director tried to get it made for more than a decade before deciding that driving a roadworthy Nicolas Cage vehicle would be preferable to leaving a Rolls-Royce to rust in the garage....

“I was just sent a script and I was asked to audition, but I was filming at the time and so I asked for an extension,” she recalled. “I got this extension, and then I was sick and I was like, ‘Oh, my goodness, not only am I 17 years old, I’m British, I don’t know sign language, I’ve never had a singing lesson, and now I’m also ill.’ But I loved the script....
