“It was all about smaller spaces, but more variety. We used our space to create smaller, more intimate settings,” Iannucci said. Some of that intimacy comes out of actually squeezing members of the show’s cast into smaller, more claustrophobic spaces, but some of it also comes out of the new ways Iannucci uses his futuristic setting to rip apart the many, many flaws of modern communication and culture. Noteworthy additions are a fictional prestige version of “Avenue 5” being made for Earth audiences while Avenue 5 is still limping back towards the planet and a Instagram-Live-esque chat show where reactions drown out the news....

The wide release is not a standard pattern for awards titles, but a lot has changed since the last conventional awards year of 2019. Even the Oscar strategy isn’t immune to the changes in the exhibition landscape. Previously, a platform release for “Babylon” would have opened on multiple screens at the Arclight Hollywood and The Landmark. Those two Los Angeles theaters had a unique potential to generate massive grosses, giving films an immediate boost....

From simple activities like streaming a favorite show to more complex activities such as editing video or sound, laptops and tablets can just about do it all. They also help lessen the load, which is great when you’re a student because you might not have to carry around as many books. Laptops and tablets also come in handy whether you’re working from home or in the office, and tablets are perfect for kids....

In chatting with his friends, Baena joked about doing something similar to Woody Allen’s debut feature — 1966’s “What’s Up, Tiger Lily” — by taking existing features and altering them. “Everyone thought it was funny…and later on that night [the project] started spinning in my head about how that’s actually not a bad idea,” Baena told IndieWire. Baena saw the opportunity to not necessarily dub over something, but use the features as a springboard to create a totally new story and genre than what was originally filmed....

It’s that sense of impeccable theatricality that leads to the central tension in “Criminal.” The audience is faced with suspects tied to crimes theoretically inspired by real-life instances of kidnapping, assault, trafficking, and murder. But the show itself often feels like a simulation. It’s a well-composed one, but that gap between the show’s raw real-time ambitions and the tidiness of the final product is one that always seems to hover over that questioning room table....

“Carl is laid back and at peace,” Peterson said. “You can tell the way he stands and the fact that he doesn’t wear his jacket; he’s doing woodworking now. I think his adventure was successful.” But while Carl is content to relax or build a birdhouse or enjoy the fireworks, Dug can’t help exploring and getting into mischief. In “Squirrel,” he meets his match in his furry nemesis while looking after the birdhouse; in “Puppies,” he bites off more than he can chew while babysitting a neighbor’s canine pets; “Flowers” sees his fear of fireworks lead to a wild dream; “Smell” finds Dug unable to contain the thrill of new nasal discoveries; and, in “Science,” Wilderness Explorer Russell (voiced by Jordan Nagai using deleted recordings from “Up”) returns to help Dug communicate with the Squirrel and birds by making their own voice-activated collars....

Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” officially wrapped production, with star Timothée Chalamet sharing a behind-the-scenes photo to mark the end of filming. “DUNE 2 WRAPPED,” Chalamet captioned, adding in parentheses, “with desert dad!” (He’s pictured here with his father, Marc Chalamet.) Chalamet also flashes the peace sign against a fitting backdrop of sand dunes. IndieWire has reached out to production sources for comment.
