Universal beat out several major studios to back the project after Nolan chose to exit his 19-year, career-long, exclusive relationship with Warner Bros. (It held international rights on Paramount’s “Interstellar.”) When WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar made the surprise December 3, 2020 announcement that the studio’s 2021 slate, including IMAX-bound “Dune,” would open day-and-date in theaters and on HBO Max, Nolan was done. For the Oppenheimer project, top studio executives (who did not include Warners) drove to Nolan and producer Emma Thomas’ Hollywood Hills home office....

The “Batman” actress revealed in a GQ TikTok video that the Emmy-winning HBO series would most likely not return without late director Jean-Marc Vallée, who died in 2021. “I don’t think it is. We talked about doing a Season 3 a lot, but unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year,” Kravitz said. “I just can’t imagine going on without him. The State of the Race Emmy season has arrived, and after a year of TV production rebuilding voters are now swimming (drowning?) in an ocean of contenders new and old. With an eligibility period of June 1, 2021, through May 31, 2022, TV Academy members must consider everything from last summer’s breakout hit “The White Lotus” (HBO) all the way to the upcoming, long-awaited return of “Stranger Things” (Netflix). The last month alone offered enough premieres to fill up the awards categories, including new seasons of “Atlanta” (FX), “Russian Doll” (Netflix), and “Barry” (HBO) that were years in the making, and the current trend of limited series ripped from recent headlines like “The Dropout,” “The Girl from Plainville” (Hulu), and “WeCrashed” (Apple TV+)....

What prevents the series from being the haunting reverie it strive for is that it’s all-too-familiar — content with playing inside a box that’s already been shredded. It may provide varied opportunities for added drama and unpredictability, but the broad “woman with amnesia” storytelling trope could use an overhaul. Jo Harding (Nielsen), a Danish-English translator, seems to have it all: a beautiful country home, a loving family comprised of a doting husband, Rob (Eccleston), plus two children, Finn and Sash (Tom Taylor and Rosy McEwen), and inherited wealth that affords her the freedom to take on social justice causes....

While this year’s Oscar race is expected to be tight between Zimmer and Jonny Greenwood, who scored “The Power of the Dog,” many believe that Zimmer has the edge. A second win for Zimmer would not only be long overdue, it would also serve as vindication that the composer’s live action work is taken as seriously as his work on animated films. But regardless of what happens at the Oscars on Sunday, Zimmer will not be on hand to witness it....

James Mangold is sick of that speculation. The filmmaker, who takes over for Steven Spielberg as the director of “The Dial of Destiny,” wants fans to know that Harrison Ford is irreplaceable. In a reply to a since-deleted tweet from a fan asking if Waller-Bridge would be leading the franchise, Mangold went on a lengthy rant about fans spreading misinformation about his film. “One more time. No one is ‘taking over’ or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being ‘erased’ thru some contrivance,” Mangold wrote....
