As IndieWire reported last week, when the the bulk of this year’s lineup was announced, the festival again failed to bump up its representation of female filmmakers in the competition. At the time, the festival announced just three films directed by women had made the cut, with Claire Denis, Kelly Reichardt, and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi all in the section. Today, with a fleet of new films announced, they will be joined by Charlotte Vandermeersch, who co-directed new competition title “The Eight Mountains” with Felix Van Groeningen, and former Camera d’Or winner Leonor Serraille with her “Un Petit Frère....
“West Side Story” Oscar winner Rita Moreno is officially joining the ensemble cast for “Fast X,” as Diesel confirmed on Instagram. “It’s been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she’s here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile,” Diesel said in a video alongside Moreno and longtime co-star Michelle Rodriguez. “I’m so blessed.” Moreno responds, “You know what, I think I was getting…I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me....
The charge was filed on Wednesday by former Netflix employees B. Pagels-Minor, a Netflix program manager, and Terra Field, a software engineer. The filing accuses Netflix of “engag[ing] in the above activity [firing] to quell employees from speaking up about working conditions including, but not limited to, seeking to create a safe and affirming work environment for Netflix employees, speaking up about Netflix’s products and the impact of its product choices on the LGBTQ+ community, and providing support for employees whom Netflix has treated in an unlawful and disparate manner....

Now, as IndieWire establishes every awards’ morning, a “snub” in this context does not imply any purposeful exclusion; the below snubs are not shows on the HFPA’s hit list, they are notable programs that were either overlooked or couldn’t muster enough support to make the final cut. Still, the Globes did see some unfortunate patterns persevere....
