With IP franchises risking streaming fatigue, it’s special that a “Star Wars” property — and a TV series at that — would be beloved by fans and appear on critics’ year-end Top 10 lists (including that of IndieWire’s Ben Travers). Rian Johnson’s 2017 feature “The Last Jedi” found acclaim (and 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), but as the internet liked to tell us, fans were more divided. “Andor” represents a unique moment of lockstep, and word of mouth should carry it to even larger audiences over the holidays....

Deadline reported that Searchlight Pictures had no comment on the ongoing investigation. Ansari is writing, directing, and starring in the film, alongside Seth Rogen. Neither is named in the official complaint, which was filed last week. Production on “Being Mortal” was officially halted April 18 and will remain suspended as the investigation continues. Based on Atul Gawande’s nonfiction book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End,” the film started principal photography March 28 and was reportedly halfway through production prior to the allegation against Murray....

Wu, who only uses the production member’s initial, alleged that he controlled her, demanded she ask for approval for all her business ventures, and told her what to wear. If Argento the actor was last seen quite literally fading away on-screen, Argento the director stages his follow-up to be a perfectly lurid reply, as if to say: “I’m not gone yet!” The filmmaker loses no time setting the scene; once actor Ilenia Pastorelli (“They Call Me Jeeg”) full-body swaggers into the film’s opening shot, her sharp features accented, her lips painted a shade of incandescent red, and her blouse nearly bursting, “Dark Glasses” makes perfectly what kind of schlock its selling....

The “Evil Dead” and “Spider-Man” director explained during the commentary track of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” that he had to convince Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to include a particularly quirky sequence involving Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The adversaries have a staredown, with close-ups of their eyes darting back and forth, á la Raimi’s “The Quick and the Dead,” but Feige was skeptical over the silliness of the sequence....

The star of upcoming “Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House” recently detailed his decision to reprise acting since a 2018 defamation lawsuit against Australian tabloid The Daily Telegraph over an article alleging Rush acted inappropriately toward an actress. Rush denied a separate allegation of misconduct that same year, with the accusation stemming from a 2010 theater production. “It was bruising for everyone involved, I think, on both sides,” Rush told Deadline while at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival to receive the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution award....
